Types of Tenancy agreement

As a Mercian tenant you will have one of the following three types of tenancy. More

Ending your tenancy

When you wish to leave you must give us four weeks' notice IN WRITING that you wish to end your tenancy. The notice must commence on a Monday.

If you do not give four full weeks' notice, Mercian is entitled to charge you rent up to the end of the four week notice period.

Your Neighbourhood Officer will arrange to visit you before you leave.

You are responsible for:

  • removing all your belongings and disposing of any rubbish from the house and garden
  • ensuring the keys to the property are handed in ( or posted by recorded delivery) to be received by 12noon on the last day ( Monday) of your notice period
  • paying rent, any service charge and court costs due
  • leaving the property, fixtures and fittings in good condition
  • paying for any damage that has been caused to the property
  • providing us with your forwarding address

If the above conditions are met, Mercian will send you a cheque for £50.

On the day you move please check that:

  • all furniture, carpets and possessions have been removed
  • you have emptied and cleared the cupboards, shed/s and loft
  • the property is clean and no rubbish has been left

  • gas and electric companies
  • telephone company
  • post office to redirect your mail
  • the council and water company
  • local neighbourhood office for housing and supporting people benefits
