Transfers

Any Mercian tenant can apply to transfer to another Mercian property (unless you live in or want to move to Coventry or Solihull).

Apply by completing a form from our offices. You need:

  • to have lived in your present home for at least 12 months
  • have a clear rent account
  • your home to be in good decorative order
  • you have not caused a nuisance to your existing neighbours

You will be allocated points depending on:

  • overcrowding
  • medical circumstances
  • any harassment
  • any other relevant circumstances

Before acceptance on to the transfer list you will be visited by your Neighbourhood Officer who will discuss the request and inspect the condition of your property.

You will then be advised in writing of your acceptance and told the size of property and the areas you are registered for. We will also give you an estimate of the amount of time you are likely to wait before we can offer you a transfer.

Allocation of properties is usually made to the applicant with the highest number of housing needs points.

Please remember that transfers to areas where Mercian only has a few available homes may take a long time.

When a property becomes available, and before an offer is made, our maintenance surveyor will inspect your current property. They will advise you of any work/decorating you will have to do before a transfer offer will be made.
