Transfers

Any Mercian tenant can apply to transfer to another Mercian property.

Apply by completing a form from our offices. You need:

  • to have lived in your present home for at least 12 months
  • a clear rent account or a genuine reason to move your home to be in good decorative order.

You will be allocated points depending on:

  • overcrowding
  • medical circumstances
  • any harassment.

Before acceptance on to the transfer list you will be visited by your Neighbourhood Officer who will discuss the request and inspect the condition of your property.

You will then be advised in writing of your acceptance and told the size of property and the areas you are registered for.

Allocation of properties is usually made to the applicant with the highest number of housing needs points.

Transfers to areas where Mercian only has a few available homes may take a long time.

When a property becomes available, and before an offer is made, our maintenance surveyor will inspect your current property. They will advise you of any work/decorating that will have to be done before a transfer offer will be made.
