Renting a Mercian Home
Mercian's housing waiting list is now open, with effect from 27th November 2009.
Renting a Mercian home
Mercian provides homes for people who are inadequately housed or homeless and for those who have particular housing needs.
To assess housing need and treat all applicants fairly, when allocating homes in Birmingham, Nuneaton, Rugby, Sandwell, Shropshire and Walsall,we use a points system, taking into account the applicant's existing housing conditions, in particular:
- overcrowding
- lack of basic amenities
- medical problems
- social, family or employment needs
For more infomation on housing in Walsall visit www.walsall.gov.uk/access_to_housing_june_09.pdf.
Choice Based Lettings
We no longer have our own waiting lists for properties in Coventry and Solihull. All of our homes in these areas are allocated via their Choice-Based Lettings Schemes.
Choice Based Lettings is a new way of allocating property to tenants. Each week any homes available are advertised and you can then choose whether you want to bid for the property. Once you register with the scheme you are awarded a level (or band) of housing need. When properties are then advertised they state which level (or bands) can bid for that property. The new schemes mean that you have more choice about the property you want to live in and how long you may have to wait until you are housed.
Area's which are operating CBL are:
Solihull - Home Options. Visit www.solihullhomeoptions.org.uk or call 0121 717 1518.
