As an organisation Mercian is committed to investing in local areas to help people achieve their aspirations for a better life.

Training Services

Mercian actively promotes training among residents as well as staff in order to:

  • Develop individuals' skills and abilities, which may have a positive impact upon the community
  • Use those skills to improve Mercian's service by understanding and challenging how we work

All courses are FREE to residents.
Childcare and travel costs are paid and transport can be arranged.

Courses lined up for 2006/2007

Basic internet skills

Ideal for those new to the Internet and email, but who know how to use a computer and keyboard. This course will enable you to begin to communicate electronically.

This links in nicely with the resident computer now available in the customer involvement team for those wanting to practice the skills they learn.

How to Hold Effective Meetings

This course is ideal for those already involved in meetings with Mercian, such as resident meetings and resident forums.

It is also highly useful for those residents interested in running their own site/community meetings.

  • The secrets of success: preparation, people and follow up
  • Key communication tools and techniques
  • Agendas, minutes, reports and action plans
  • Managing disagreement and reaching decisions.

This is a one day course only.

First Aid Certificate

This will be the full four day First Aid Course spread over two weeks.

  • The course is suitable for beginners
  • Attendees will become a full qualified first aider
  • Attendees will receive a recognised certificate and qualification

You can do it

This course will suit residents who are keen to make a change in their community.

This is a one day course and cover:

  • How to boost your own and others’ confidence
  • Recognising the strengths and qualities you have
  • How to tackle challenges in a positive way
  • Using goals and action planning to achieve major change

This is a one day course only.
