Eid ul Adha Comes to Mercian
Colleagues at Birmingham based Mercian Housing Association attended a presentation to learn about Eid-ul-adha (festival of sacrifice) and celebrated the splendour of the Islamic festival, which commemorates the willingness to sacrifice one’s possessions in obedience to Allah (the Almighty God).
Organised by the muslim colleagues, the event was well attended by all who wanted to know more about the Islamic festivals.
Traditional sweets (mithai) were served to attending colleagues, followed by the presentation on the origins of the festival, which also included a video footage about the muslim holy pilgrimage (Hajj).
The presentation ended with a question and answer session and then traditional food was served. Colleagues then had the opportunity to have their hands painted with henna (mehndi).
Afsheen Shaikh, Finance Officer at Mercian, who helped to organise the event said, “It was great to share the history behind Eid with my colleagues. I was pleased that people wanted to get involved and everyone has really enjoyed themselves!”
