Lyng PCSOs Get on Their Bike!

Patrols for The Lyng estate have become a more mobile affair thanks to the generosity of the Lyng Community Association (LCA) who helped to fund a brand new bicycle in partnership with the local pharmacy in West Bromwich.

Wendy Bodenham, chair of the board for the LCA, was in attendance to officially hand over the bike saying 'The LCA is delighted to have sponsored the bicycle which will enable the Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) to maintain a visible presence in and around the Lyng estate'.

PCSOs Nicki Yates and Martyn Booker for the Lyng and Kendrick area were very pleased to take official delivery of the new bike.

Nicki said, “We’re very happy that LCA and Lyng Pharmacy provided the funding for one the bikes. Having these bikes means that Officers can get around more quickly and more often, which is a benefit to residents as they get to see more of us.”

Mercian Housing Association, who manages the LCA properties on the Lyng estate, invited local children to take part in a Bicycle Safety Event to celebrate the donation and ensure they were safe and responsible cyclists just like their PCSO’s!

Sandwell’s bike safety expert Terry Stanley came along to give the local children advice on how to maintain their own bikes; promoting responsible cycling amongst the youngsters as well as making sure all bikes were in good working order to keep them safe through the summer holidays and beyond.

Nicki added, “Today’s Bike Safety Event has been great, the kids have got involved and listened to the bike safety expert – they found it informative and can now safely enjoy riding their bikes this summer.”

Clare Collinson, Community Involvement Officer at Mercian said, “We hope that the advice the children have received today will make a difference and help keep the community safer. Through events such as this, Mercian provides opportunities for residents to get involved, helping to develop communities people take pride in.”
