Mercian Employees Do Something Yummy for Money!
Colleagues at Birmingham based Mercian Housing Association have been doing their bit to support disadvantaged children and families across the UK and Africa, by raising money for Red Nose Day.
As well as the usual donation for dressing down, everyone was invited to bring in a contribution to Mercian’s ‘Red Nose Day Buffet’, held over lunchtime in the organisations Bistro area.
The event was a great success and outstanding contributions from everyone at Mercian, including some homemade favourites, meant that there was enough for everyone – from chicken curry and sausage rolls to cream cakes!
Clare Collinson, Resident Involvement Officer at Mercian said if the event, “I can’t believe how many people took the time to make something to bring in today. It’s amazing how food brings people together – I’ve never seen the Bistro so buzzing!”
With donations of £2 or more per plate and a raffle, the cash collection soon built up. The grand total that Mercian employees raised was a whopping £300.00!
The money raised could pay the salary of an ambulance driver for a year in Somalia land. Years of civil war has left the country’s medical services in ruins and hundreds of women die unnecessarily in childbirth every week. An ambulance driver provides a vital emergency service that saves people’s lives
Today’s event shows that Mercian is committed to getting involved and working together to make a contribution towards this very worthwhile charity.
